What is a Microdiscectomy for Lumbar Disc Herniation, Low Back Pain and Leg Pain?


we’re going to talk about a surgical
procedure called a microdiscectomy this procedure is done when there is
either a large bone spur or there is a disc herniation compressing
the nerve root a very small incision maybe half an inch
to an inch long is made midline and then we move a muscle over to the side and then here is the area where we make
a small approach there’s a vestigial ligament here
called ligamentum flavum which is removed and then the nerve root is right underneath literally we take the adhesions down
from the offending structure roll the nerve root medially and remove the
compressive element that’s essentially what a microdiscectomy is
