Sports Medicine – Return to Play Following Concussion

– Hi, this is Andy Peterson, team physician for Iowa Hawkeye football. We’ve gotten better at identifying when an athlete might have a concussion and should be removed from play, but knowing when an
athlete is ready to return is just as important. Returning too soon can
result in a worse injury. Graduated Return to Play is the process of helping an athlete
safely get back to sport after their concussion. It requires the athlete to meet a series of activity milestones
before fully returning, and keeps them safe while
gradually and progressively reintroducing the demands of their sport. (upbeat rock music)
