Spine Disorders – Your Health in 60 – Frankfort Regional Medical Center

(light pop music) – I’m Dr. Mark Myers. I’m a spine surgeon here at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. There are two main
types of spine problems. The first are pinched nerves. They’re usually pinched by a disc rupture or a bone spur. Those often cause pain and numbness in the arms or legs. We generally can treat those with operations to un-pinch the nerve. The other main type of spine problems are structural problems with the spine itself, usually a worn out disc, or sometimes vertebrae
that are out of place. Those kinds of problems can sometimes be treated with operations to
fuse the spine together. Patients with pinched
nerves in their neck or back can have pain, numbness, and weakness in the arms and legs. If it’s left untreated,
it can become permanent. Most of the patients who come to my office don’t end up with an operation. Other things we can do to
treat these problems include medications, physical
therapy, chiropractic care, epideral injections, and bracing. Frankfort Regional Medical Center; first-class care right here.
