Hi I’m Doctor Heather Moore owner of Total
Performance Physical Therapy today we’re going to go through some things you can do
to massage your own neck and if you wake up with a stiff neck you can do some things to
yourself like myofascial release that will help decrease the pain,, the one thing that
you want to be aware of is that if there’s numbness and tingling in your fingers that
is a more serious issue and you do want to get that checked out by your healthcare practitioner
but if you wake up and you have a stiff neck, you go through the day and you have a stiff
neck you just want to rub your neck here’s a couple techniques. What I want to focus on first is more of what
not to do, so many times when I see people try to massage their neck they pull on it
so their shoulders come forward, your neck goes forward and you wind up really putting
a lot of pressure on your neck, it actually make the situation worst when you do something
like that or they start rubbing their neck and they bring their shoulder up and you rub
like this so what you’re doing is you’re actually activating the muscles that you’re
trying to work out, when you work on your neck you want to make sure you roll your shoulders
up back and drop them down and then you’re just going to gently massage all the way up
the side of your neck and all the way down, keeping your shoulder relaxed, keeping this
shoulder relax, okay make sure you’re not like this and trying to rub your neck, make
sure you’re not pulling on your neck to rub it, gently you want to do five minutes
each side just take your two fingers whichever 2 fingers you want, go all along this muscle,
don’t massage your clavicle, no real muscle tissue that you need to worry about directly
on the clavicle but you can go just above it and you can go just below it nice and easy
then you can move to the back of your neck where you’re just going again 2 fingers
go all the way up, you can go all the way up into your head, if people get tension headaches,
people say I really feel at the base of my skull all the way up there, push as hard as
you can tolerate, okay and then come back down again make sure your shoulders are relaxed
and you’re not pulling on your neck. If you like a free report on the top 3 causes
