Jasmine dealing with a concussion – Support Services

Hi guys, I’m back unfortunately I’ve been
on concussion bedrest I guess you could say for about two weeks so I haven’t
been able to make any blog post or any videos. I haven’t been able to tweet much
which was really sad it made me a bit um kind of kind of threw me back a bit from
all of this which is not what I wanted but it was just a couple steps to my
recovery which is actually what I wanted to talk about today. I was really
really, really impressed with Conestoga as a whole. The way that they helped me
with my recovery especially accessibility services that was just
amazing and the athletic therapists there specifically Kristen and as well
dr. hall. We’re just gonna kind of tell you a little timeline of what happened.
So Thursday a couple weeks ago I got a concussion or fell down the stairs got myself
a bit of a concussion. Next day I went to go to my game but I wasn’t really there
I wasn’t feeling good so Kristen took me in to the Wellness Center um and she
helped me. She kind of went through the concussion tests with me I found out
that um I do have symptoms of a concussion and then she called up Dr.
hall which works at Grand River Sports Medicine and he’s just a doctor that
comes in and essentially like speaks to anyone with any injuries, concussions and
what not. It’s kind of just like a second set of eyes. So she made me an
appointment for the next week so that I can see him and from there she kind of
took everything, um she took everything in my favour I
guess you could say. She made sure that I was able to speak to Dr. Hall I got a
doctors note, that I was taking care of contacting accessibility services,
contacting all my teachers to notify them that I do have a concussion and I
may not be able to come to school finish my work and what not.
She’s just the steps of my recovery like she’s been helping me a lot which is
amazing. I said I can never say this word right accessibility services last week
or two weeks ago sorry they called me I had no idea what the call was for I
was in class and I didn’t answer it I think it was like last Tuesday, Monday or
Tuesday and then I got an email as well just following up on the call and it was
just letting me know that my appointments ready and I was just like
like so I emailed the back and I was just like I don’t really think I made an
appointment for a phone call I’m not really sure what’s going on here and
little did I know Kristin I’ve already contacted them and I they, they’ve been
taking care of my recovery or the steps to my recovery. Notifying my teachers and
kind of getting them on board with what further steps that I might need to take
in order to recover from the concussion. So I got on the phone the other day with
um someone from accessibility and honestly it was probably the best call
ever, especially to receive data because I did have an essay that was due that
week that I wasn’t a hundred percent ready to complete I wasn’t there yet I
didn’t think that I would be able to with my concussion and my concussion
symptoms. So the lady from accessibility services took care of everything she
emailed Patricia my teacher and she emailed like all my other profs just
notifying them that I do have a concussion symptoms like so and so forth
and that I’ll come to them if I need any alterations on deadlines or tests and
stuff like that to help me. So that was amazing that was great. If I was like
if I was a guest in a restaurant or I was a customer at a store 5 out of 5
stars for customer service right there that was amazing and it’s good to know
that you’re always being helped Conestoga. It’s good to know that if
you ever have a problem if you ever have if you ever need anything like if you
got if you get injured or you have a concussion
Conestoga is there for you and it’s amazing having not only your profs there
but Conestoga as a whole the different the different departments of Conestoga
checking up on you. Like you never feel alone which is great I having a
concussion I’d never experienced anything like that before I have been
playing sports for a while but this is the only the only time I’ve ever been
injured. However, I didn’t even have it didn’t even happen um through soccer
unfortunately happened another way but I’ve never experienced something like
that and it was really nice having Dr. Hall and Kristin, accessibility services,
my coaches, my teachers helped me with my recovery it was just it was amazing,
it was amazing and I can’t stress enough that Conestoga is a great school for
doing. I have had in high school I don’t think that would ever happen,
um elementary school I get a little air like it doesn’t matter, but being at
Conestoga and feeling the love that everyone has for each other and like the
teachers have for the students and knowing that they actually care about
you is a really great feeling. I just wanted to share it with everyone because
I wanted to let them know that you honestly are not alone. In situations
like this and other situations as well I know that we have counseling services –
I haven’t been there yet myself but it’s never a bad thing to check it out I’ve
seen a lot of a lot of posts and I’ve seen boards like a kind of
along Conestoga talking about the lowness Center but I haven’t actually
been there but I know for a fact going through my concussion and the recovery
and stuff it’ll be just as easy as that. It will give you support and having
support from your school is amazing so yeah I will be posting another vlog kind
of talking about the benefits of Conestoga I know
everything’s been great like the cons and the pros of being at Conestoga and
being a college student that’s kind of gonna be my next I’m in my next video or
my next blog so yeah have a good day.
