How to Heal Back pain and Sciatica

If your struggling with any kind of neck pain,
back pain or sciatic nerve pain down the legs, In this video I’m going to share my own extremely
painful experience with disc herniations and sciatica,
and how 1 Doctors unique approach allowed me to recover, With No Surgery. Hey what’s up guys Bertus here, and before
I share my story I like to give a quick disclaimer. I am Not a medical professional in any way,
and everything I share here is simply my experience and for
educational purposes only. The pain for me came about in a strange way,
I woke up one morning with a mild pain in the back of my leg, I didn’t fall or lift
anything heavy the day before, the pain just appeared. I decided to try and ignore it and assumed
it would just disappear in the same way. But days and then weeks went by, and it gradually
got worse and worse, It was bothering me sufficiently at that point to go
see a general Doctor to try figure out what was going on here. The initial diagnosis was that it was a torn
hamstring and it would be gone after resting it for 6 weeks. well, 6 weeks of rest came and went and the
pain was now worse than before. obviously we lost faith in that doctor and
decided to see a different Doctor, i ended up seeing several general Doctors to try figure
out what this pain is and why it’s not going away. None of the general Doctors could
figure it out, but one suggested we do an Mri Scan and so that’s what we did. I had no idea how my world was about to fall
apart, The Orthopedic Surgeon who evaluated my MRI scan, began outlining all the problems
he could see with my spine. He pointed to different area’s on the scan
and started explaining what a Disc herniations and Disc
protrusions are, and how it places pressure on the spinal nerves, which he said explains
the ever increasing pain I was having in the back of my leg, he told us the situation was
very serious and in his opinion he recommended
I have surgery right away to avoid causing any further nerve damage. A spinal fusion is the procedure that he was
recommending, and he went into details of how that is performed.I was in shock and overwhelmed
fear. I was only 17 years old at the time, how was
this possible? My mom could see
the impact that diagnosis from the surgeon had on me that day, And thankfully she
decided to try and stay positive and told me that he could be wrong and we are going
for a second opinion. we ended up going for a second opinion and
the 3rd and the 4th. We went from orthopedic surgeons to a
Neuro surgeon to a Neurologist, we even managed to get in and see the Top Surgeon in The country. Unfortunately after examining me they all
said the same thing. That I need surgery to relieve the pressure
being placed on my spinal column from the damaged discs. one
surgeon told me that the longer I wait the more nerve damage is being done and I might
even end up in a wheel chair as a result of us delaying the surgery. in spite of everything all the surgeons said,
the thought of having a spinal fusion performed on me at 17 years old, was simply
not something I could bring myself to accept. We decided to try the conservative approach
first. physical therapy, acupuncture, deep tissue
injections, chiropractors, traction, APS therapy, anything we could think of. But none of it worked for me. I was on the strongest pain killers they would
prescribe. and the supply that was supposed to last me a month I’d finish in half the
time. at this point I was physically deteriorating
at a rapid rate. The pain had spread down both my legs my buttocks,
my lower back my upper back and my neck. the pain was so widespread I couldn’t finish
high school because I could no longer sit in a chair due
to the intensity of the pain. I could hardly walk, and I spent most of my
days in bed or at therapy. it seemed like we were out of options, and
the surgery was the only thing that remained, I remember my parents asking the surgeon if
he could guarantee the procedure he was recomending would take away the pain, and he said No.
it’s possible to have the surgery and still be in pain. that was enough for us to
move away from the surgery once again. 13 months had passed since it all began, and
chronic debilitating pain had become my life. I couldn’t even put on my own shoes anymore
because I was so restricted by the pain. I was Deeply depressed, and having suicidal
thoughts. my life was a living nightmare and I wanted
it to end, It was the worst Pain I had ever experienced it was there all day every day
and nothing could make it stop. I was right on the edge of losing my self,
when My Mom found a book written by a Dr John E Sarno called Healing back pain. And in this book he described a condition
he called TMS Tension myositis syndrome. I read almost the whole book in an afternoon
and an evening and I’ll be honest it was hard for me to make sense of what he was describing,
but something must have sunk in, because within a matter of days 90 percent
of all my pain vanished, it was the most surreal experience, I was convinced i was in some
kind of dream and I would wake up any minute. I mean after being in so much pain for so
long, and trying so many different things to try and find relief and then having that
pain vanish like that, was unbelievable. I’m not going to go into details here about
what the book explains because i feel it’s important for this information to come from
Dr Sarno himself through his books. I’m just a Man on the internet, where as Dr
Sarno was an incredibly insightful and dedicated Dr who
devoted his life’s work to understanding the true cause of the pain. He’s helped thousands of people recover from
crippling chronic pain without surgery. Dr Sarno saved my life, I’m
37 years old at the time of this video and i’ve had an incredibly active lifestyle up
to this point and i have never had any kind of surgery on my back or neck. Sure i’ve had some relapses of pain over the
years, some a little scary and intense, but with Dr Sarno’s approach
as my foundation i have always managed to get back to being pain free and active once
again in very short time frames. I know how this pain can ruin one’s life,
