– Hey guys, Dr. Luke
Stringer here with Bimi at Advanced Health Chiropractic down at South Loop in Chicago. We’re back talking about headaches and how we can alleviate or at
least address those headaches when we’re not under treatment
with someone like ourselves, a chiropractor. Essentially, what causes headaches? On our previous videos, we
discussed that poor posture can put stress and
tension onto the muscles that sit underneath your skull and attach to the top
two bones of your neck called your suboccipitals. So essentially when you
evaluate good posture like you see Bimi in here, ears on top of your shoulder, you should have a nice even curve, but when we have those repelling
stresses such as sitting, the cervical curve
essentially shifts forward, so Bimi’s head’s gonna shift forward. So the muscles that anchor the skull to those top two vertebrae,
essentially here, instead of being this
long they’re this long. And essentially you create,
that stress and tension breaks them down. And that’s why, classically,
we see a lot of headaches that start at the base of the skull and wrap around into the brain. So this stretch is something
that you can do at work, at home, in the gym, sitting or standing, it’s a great stretch that
you should start doing immediately, particularly
if you’re getting the tension headache that
starts at the back of the skull. So essentially, all we’re gonna do, if you can face head-on Bimi, you’re just gonna look straight ahead whenever we do any stretch
you’re gonna get in good posture, so shoulders up, back, down. You’re gonna bring your
chin onto your chest, you’re gonna look at your left pocket, you’re gonna take the
hand you’re looking at over the back of the head, and then you’re gonna gently distract, to make this stretch a little harder, you’re gonna drop that shoulder. And what we’re doing is
we’re stretching all the way from the suboccipitals, all
through these neck muscles, down into these shoulder muscles. And hold this for 60 seconds,
and do it both sides, and do it two to three times at a time. And I’d be doing this every day, especially if you sit, lunchtime, when you get home from work. Start doing this one immediately, but if you’re suffering from headaches, we encourage you to fill out the form, click the button at
