>>This is Brandt-Daroff habituation exercise. Begin this exercise sitting on
the edge of your bed or couch. It is recommended that your feet be
able to reach the floor comfortably so you can easily steady yourself when
you return to the sitting position. Sit in the middle of your bed so you’ll
have enough room to lay down to each side. Turn your head 45 degrees to the right
and quickly lay down on your left side. Allow your neck to relax with the back
of your head supported by the bed. Wait for dizziness to subside, plus 30 seconds. If you are not dizzy wait for 30 seconds. Quickly sit back up and wait for 30 seconds. Turn your head 45 degrees to the left
and quickly lay down on your right side. Wait for dizziness to subside, plus 30 seconds. If you are not dizzy wait for 30 seconds. Quickly sit back up and wait for 30 seconds. You have just completed one repetition of
the Brandt-Daroff habituation exercise. Repeat this sequence four more times
for a total of five repetitions.>>Perform this exercise
twice a day for two weeks.

    I had vertigo for 3 weeks, went to ent, he gave me meds, It helped somewhat. Then one night while getting into bed, Vertigo got really bad, I could barley walk. I knew of this procedure but was not sure if it would make it worse. I had nothing to loose. After the third set, it was 75 percent better. After two days its 100% gone.     It is meant to habituate the person to the vertigo. Apparently it doesn't get the otolith out of the SC canals in BPPV.

    I had bad vertigo and this really works! I went 3x to my MD and therapist then I did it on my own for about 3 weeks.

    I've got vertigo now. It's beginning to settle, but still flares up at points. Do you start with the affected ear or the opposite with this exercise? Does it matter?

    both Brandt-Daroff Exercises and Modified Epley maneuvers were almost equally effective in the treatment of BPPV. seems brandt is easyer and works so l choose that. A total of 50 patients between 27 and 76 years of age who were diagnosed with unilateral posterior canal into BPPV were randomized prospectively into two groups. In Group-1, modified particle repositioning maneuver and in Group-2 Brandt-Daroff exercises were utilized as treatment. Patients were followed weekly. Cure weeks were recorded. The patients were followed for 12 to 24 months for recurrence.

    Results:

    The recovery rates at the first, second and third week controls were 76%, 96% and 100% for Group-1 (modified Epley maneuver) and 64%, 88% and 100% for Group-2 (Brandt-Daroff exercises) respectively. The recovery rates were similar for both groups. The average follow-up duration was 18 months. In Group 1, 7 patients (28%) and in Group 2, 5 patients (20%) had recurrence, which was also similar with no statistical difference.

    Conclusion:

    It was concluded that both Brandt-Daroff Exercises and Modified Epley maneuvers were almost equally effective in the treatment of BPPV.

    This exercise is very out dated. The Epley (or Deep Head Hang or BBQ manoeuvre depending on which inner ear canal is affected) are better cures that will work the first time you do them correctly. I'm not a doctor but have been getting BPPV once or twice a year for ten years years, the movement demonstrated in this video is what my doctor advised many years ago the first time I was diagnosed. It never helped and is nauseating to perform.
