Bone Graft Technique Using BMP | Fusion for the Lower Back | Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in Colorado

in the older days we used to take bone
grafts from the pelvis an area around here and that was quite uncomfortable for
patients we don’t have to do that anymore nowadays we take the bone graft
from the area where we do the surgery if you’ll notice on this side the facets
here are intact and if you notice on this side the
facets are actually missing this is the area of the bone graft that we take in order to get the fusion
to occur and it’s part of the surgical level so there’s no additional pain and i’d like to say we’re very green and
recycle so we take that bone out we prepare it and use it for the bone graft we use that bone with the material
called BNP or bone morphogenetic protein and mix it together and it is
placed here here and within the disc itself here and that’s how we get our fusion it takes anywhere between four and six
months for most people to heal together

I am wondering,2 months, post op & my legs are pretty numb, have difficulty walking ,sleeping d/t ongoing pain & "electric shock" traveling down both legs. I only had this procedure done, because my surgeon insisted that this will work for me. No option for the typical fusion was presented to me,although, his surgery report indicated that I refused the "fusion " & chose the BMP,knowing that it will very likely not work & he might have to remove the implants later. What a shame,to fool the patient & not suspecting that the patient will have access to the REAL Surgery report. I had other fusions done in the past which worked very well, why would a educated patient refused something which worked in the past, unless the BMP was presented as the only option to alleviate horrible lower back pain by a top rated surgeon?
