Hi! I’m Dr. Eric Sayer from Sayer Family Chiropractic.
I’m here on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment, we’re going to be talk about the
cause of strains of the back. There’s many ways to strain a back. Generally, if it’s
a person does too much. They’ve overloaded those ligaments and tendons of what they’re
designed to do, and the muscles. What happens with the strain for some people and just a
repetitive type of motion. They may be shoveling snow and they’ve done it one too many times,
or it may be that it was too heavy and they’ve loaded those muscles. The other thing that
they may do is I’ve even seen it where they’ll sleep wrong. They’ll sleep in some funky position.
They’re there for so long that the muscles will have mircotears, or strains, causing
the muscle to go into spasm. Other types of things that will cause strains is like I said,
repetitive motion, heavy lifting. You’ve just overloaded those muscles, made them work too
hard, and so you strain the muscle. There are numerous other ways to strain a back,
but those are some of the most common.
